Being Human

It seems that we all tend to forget we are a part of a collective group. Where people are mainly strangers, and the nameless faces blur into a work of abstract art. We enjoy defining ourselves through the groups we join by the interests we share. These volunteer families become our focus and concern. These organizations' agendas are our goals; its enemies are our enemies. Then, we become wrapped up in this ideology of us verses them. To a certain extent this is good, but this limited scope of cared for individuals hinders a greater image.

I think occasionally we forget that we are human, and that those around us are human. That, despite the differences, we all feel the same emotions, require the same needs, and desire the same basic wants. This unity would hopefully unify a nation, a global into a common agenda. But this does not seem to be the case, unless we are talking about furthering the species.

Live, Laugh, Love

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being clique and unoriginal, but perhaps what irritates me the most is its, and others, lack of perception when they scribble this phase down. They tells us that life is the pursuit of laughing and loving; the best life is filled with the most ingenue laughs and too much love.

And maybe, I'm being too cynical. But there is so much more to living and life than the laughs and love I've received. It is the heartache and the tears which drive me to laugh and love, because without those things I can never know the joy. On my trip to death, I do not just want to live then laugh and love. I need to be angry, jealous, and slothful.

It is that we cannot know what it means to live without these things. Because living is about the courage it takes to find out who you are, and what you want. Life is about convictions and the search for something larger than yourself whether it be your ideals, family, or passion. Because living and life is raw, dirty, and unattractive, underneath the laughter and love there is fear, pain, and nightmares. The gritty reality is that most people will not laugh enough, and love too little.

But a loveless life is better than one with too much love, and not enough pain. That person will not understand what it means to live.
